Becoming a Starfish

I've tried many different ways to put content out on the Web. This is another one.

One of many amazing creations from Mad Men Illustrated, a flickr set from very talented designer named Dyna Moe.  She’s also created a set of Mad Men iPhone backgrounds.
She also sells some of these illustrations (that in all likelihood are unlicensed) on Zazzle, which I’m purposefully not linking to.  I can’t help but think that AMC would have a problem with this aspect of her otherwise very complimentary homage to the show.

I can vouch for how cool these are, in fact, this particular one is the background of my computer right now.

What's Your Tumblr Number?

Tumblr assigns a sequential number to each site on their service. The lower the number, the older the site. To find your number, login to Tumblr, go to the Following Page, then click on the name of your site in the top right corner of the screen just below the “log out” link. Now, look at the URL in your browser address bar and note the number at the end of the URL. Mine looks like this:

http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/18189

That means JoeLaz.com was the 18,189th site created on Tumblr. A total of 442,648 sites have been created to date.

So, what’s your Tumblr number?

Mine is 287 230. I was late to the party, clearly.

130,949

Is it SO dorky to be excited about this? 116,362.

13,317.  I didn’t really use it for months, though.

1529 but like Caroline, I didn’t use it for a long, long time. Nor do I really now except for things like this.

Not Even Hotels Want Newspapers Anymore.

jennabee:

Fontainebleau will utilize Apple® technology to create the first ‘paperless’ hotel room (guests need not worry; the paperless room will still include toilet paper) at its Miami (fall 2008) and Las Vegas resorts (2009).

Specifically, simple and intuitive options for booking and pre-planning will be offered online at Fontainebleau.com, interactive programming will be available throughout the resort, and the highlight of the program – a personal iMac in every guest room assisting guests in customizing their vacation; inspiring them to share memories; encouraging personal expression and creating immediate actionable guest feedback. As a result, Fontainebleau has unlocked the potential to cut back on more than half a million newspapers each year, totaling more than one million pounds of saved newspapers alone.

And you wonder why places like the Times is having so many problems. I personally think it’s great for hotels to give a computer in each room. One million pounds!?! That’s just crazy.

If you only read three books this summer ...

juliaallison:

Read these:

1. Here Comes Everybody by Clay Shirky

2. Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good by Sarah Lacy

3. Sperm are from Men, Eggs are from Women by Joe Quirk

Well, I’ve read two of the three.  Can you guess which one I haven’t read yet?  :)
